Almost all of us are innately drawn to the word 'discount'. When we see a 'discount' board, we immediately search if the product that we've always wanted to buy is available on discount.
In addition to knowing some useful information about discounts, let's understand what discounts are and how to calculate them.
A discount is a reduction in the price of an item available for consumer purchase. A discounted item is available at a lower price than the maximum retail price.
Formula For Discounting
Below is the formula for calculating the discount:
Discounted price = Original price or MRP - (1 - (discount / 100))
It is important to note that most discounts are expressed as percentages.
On a sale, a branded T-shirt costs Rs.500 and is available at a 20% discount. This means:
Amount deducted from the MRP is 20*500/100 = Rs.100
After the discount, the customer pays MRP - Discounted Amount = 500 - 100 = Rs.400.
The customer saves Rs. 100 as a result of the discount
Discount Types
Check out these types of discounts you can get when you purchase a car, house, or even at a restaurant or flight booking:
Discounts For Corporations
This discount is specifically designed to attract corporate employees. To spread their brand recognition, compete with their competitors, and increase sales among corporate companies and their staff, most companies mark their products with 1-5% corporate discounts. If you belong to a corporate company, you can always inquire with your salesperson if you are eligible for corporate discounts.
Discount On Finance Options
It is possible to find out if this discount is available if you decide to purchase a TV, laptop, bike or any other bigger household appliance on finance. Your seller provides these discounts as they get commission too from the finance companies that you take your loan from. These usually range from 0.5 – 2%.
Discounts For Sellers
These discounts are marked by sellers, mainly during occasions such as festivals, new year days or their anniversaries. Beware, most sellers offer discounts on items that are not being sold for a long time, are not in great demand or are nearing their expiration dates. So check the quality of an item before buying it, especially if it's discounted by the seller.
Discounts For Loyalty
Many companies offer long-term customers discounts as a way to retain their customers. This is another type of discount. Hence, it is always better for you to check for a discount, especially if you have used or purchased the products of a company for a long time.
